Japan, Hiroshima, the last year of World War II. A little girl named Nabuko saves a small, black kitten from aggressive dogs, and takes it to her home. At first, her parents were against having a pet, since they wouldn`t have enough food to feed her, but after a short while, they agree. The kitten brings joy and happiness to the family, but those happy days won`t last long. The nightmares of war won`t let them forget about themselves, as the most drastic event is about to happen...
